Uniquely hand-painted Russian lacquer box made from papier-mache. It measures 3 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 1 inches, signed by a Mstera artist. The smaller details are painted under a magnifying glass with a one-hair brush. Touching scene of love date is depicted on the cover of the box. Masters of Mstera specialized in restoration of olden relics of ancient Russian painting. It provided the development of delicate feeling of coloring, based on hardly noticeable changes from one tone to another with prevalence of the main color of Mstera"s masters. Prevalence of landscape is typically for modern Mstera"s miniature. The miniature sits in a background other than black. A sky is blue; a tree is brown or green. The figures are less stylized and the subject matter more varied. In fact landscapes, of no significance other than their beauty, made be represented. Every detail is carefully and skillfully painted by the artist, who also added some golden filigree and install mother of pearl to make the box look shiny and elegant. The sides of this box are beautifully decorated by painting with gold filigree. After the final painting is done eight or more coats of lacquer are applied, each one having dried and being sanded smoothly before the next one is applied.
