The watch was made at the Vostok Watch Factory in Chistopol, Tatarstan, about 500 miles east of Moscow. "Vostok" watchmaker's factory dates from 1942 when one of the Moscow watch-making plants was evacuated to Chistopol - a little town located on the Kama River in the central part of Russia. Different kinds of Defense equipment were the main factory production during the war years, but as soon as the war was over they started to make mechanical wristwatches - the main production ever since. From 1965 the factory became an official supplier of the Soviet Union Department of Defense. This year marked the creation of the world famous "Komandirskie" ("Commanders") wristwatches that demonstrated the highest precision, reliability, and resistance to unfavorable conditions. Technical ideas laid in early days of the factory became the key factor for the successful development of new models. Nowadays "Vostok" wristwatches are awarded with various international prizes and are very popular both in Russia and abroad for the combination of high precision, reliability and modern design.
