Saint's face with exaggeratedly high wrinkled forehead long thin nose and small mouth is close to the face of Kiev icons. St. Nicholas in fourth century was known as "the great wonderworker; a speedy helper, and an uncommon mediator of God." This pious bishop lived in the Lycian town of Myra where he performed most of his miracles and generous deeds. His most well known deeds came around the time of Christmas, when he would leave gold in the homes of poor families on Christmas Eve, and give help to any person who needed it. His relics are now laid at rest in Rome.
